Torrejon de Ardoz

Torrejon de Ardoz is a town in the urban area of Madrid, Spain, and has about 110.000 inhabitants.
It is a town 20 km east of Madrid on the A-2 highway (Madrid-Barcelona).
The European Union Satellite Centre, an agency of the European Union, is located in Torrejon de Ardoz.
There is also a military airbase in Torrejon de Ardoz. This base receives too business jets on the civil airport. For years, the US Air Force occupied the base under agreements made with the General Francisco Franco; protecting NATO's southern flank. One of the election platforms of Felipe Gonzalez's socialist party (PSOE) was to close the base to the American fighter wing. Keeping his election promise, the then 401st Tactical Fighter Wing's (now the 401st Air Expeditionary Wing) lease was not renewed and the F-16 fighter wing left the base in the very early nineties.
It is also the birthplace of former Toronto Raptors forward Jorge Garbajosa, Real Madrid midfielder Jose M. Gutierrez "Guti" and professional wrestler Glenn Jacobs, better known by his ring name Kane.

Steve, former knight myself Class of 85. I believe the Ju-52 pictured above is the bird from THS. I used to visit Torrejon AB on Google Earth quite often. The moved the Ju-52 to the corner of a field near the NCO club on TJ where it sat for years with several other planes and that yellow pickup seen under the wing of the Ju-52 in the second pic above. Coordinates listed show it on TJ AB at the time of the images. It says the plane is in Getafe being restored as of 2014.

I was with a High School ROTC Unit at Torrejon AB called the Spain 71st AFJROTC back in the 70's. The Spanish Air Force gave this JU-52 as a gift to our unit back in 1975. I do recall we also got the manuals for this aircraft and it was all in German. SO,...I'm thinking this was a German built JU-52 vs. a license built type. As of now, "our" JU-52 is no longer at Torrejon AB and where it went,........no information. It was a fully intact aircraft minus the batteries.
